Las Vegas receives mixed reviews. Either they love it or hate it. My wife and I lived in Las Vegas for five years now. And we generally enjoy living here. Yes, it is hot in the summer, but there is air conditioning in the house and car. Yes, there is gambling, but we do not gamble. I personnally find gambling boring. We visit the strip for the shows and people watching. For hiking there is Red Rock, Mt Charleston,Valley of Fire. For camping, Death Valley isn't that far away as is Brice Canyon or Great Basin. Los Angeles or San Diego is only a short drive. While we do not have children, I am told the schools are not that great, but the schools are better than some other areas such as Louisiana. Depending on what you are looking for, Las Vegas has a lot to offer.
